Supreme Court’s full court meeting chaired by Chief Justice Afridi concentrates on addressing the backlog of cases.

ISLAMABAD (Bakhabar Pakistan) – The Supreme Court convened its inaugural full court meeting under the leadership of new Chief Justice Yahya Afridi on Monday. This significant gathering marked an important step in the court’s efforts to address pressing issues related to case management and judicial efficiency.

All available Supreme Court judges participated in the meeting, with Justice Mansoor Ali Shah joining via video link due to his presence in Saudi Arabia for Umrah. The meeting lasted for over two hours, during which the judges reviewed the current status of cases and discussed strategies to reduce the backlog that has accumulated over time.

Following the meeting, the Supreme Court registrar released a statement outlining the key objectives and discussions that took place. The primary focus was on evaluating the court’s performance and expediting the resolution of pending cases to enhance the overall efficiency of the judicial system. It was agreed that special benches would be established to specifically handle both civil and criminal cases, thereby streamlining the process and ensuring timely justice.

Moreover, the statement highlighted the implementation of Justice Mansoor Ali Shah’s case management system, which will be in effect for one month. This initiative aims to bring about improvements in how cases are managed and processed within the court. The next full court meeting has been scheduled for December 2, allowing the judges to reassess progress and make necessary adjustments.

In related news, the Supreme Court recently published a cause list for the upcoming judicial week, indicating that a total of 968 cases are slated for hearings from October 28 to November 1. The eight permanent benches of the Supreme Court will be responsible for hearing these cases in the coming week.

Specifically, the first bench will comprise Chief Justice Yahya Afridi and Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, who will be addressing 140 cases. Additionally, the second bench will consist of Justice Munib Akhtar and Justice Athar Minallah, also set to hear 140 cases. This structured approach to case hearings reflects the court’s commitment to tackling the backlog and ensuring that justice is delivered promptly.

Overall, the Supreme Court’s proactive measures under Chief Justice Afridi’s leadership signal a strong commitment to improving judicial efficiency and addressing the backlog of cases, thereby reinforcing the public’s confidence in the judicial system.
