ISLAMABAD: The Federal Constitutional Court has dismissed an appeal filed by Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University Peshawar against a female teacher, upholding the earlier decision in favor of Syeda Laila.

During the hearing, Justice Hassan Rizvi questioned the university’s counsel, asking why the teacher was being harassed after completing her three-year service commitment following her PhD.

University counsel Rehmanullah informed the court that the government had provided the teacher with a scholarship worth Rs5.6 million on the condition that she serve at the university for three years after completing her PhD. He further stated that she had remained on leave for 196 days during that period.

Justice Hassan Rizvi observed that the university had approved the teacher’s leave applications and questioned how it could subsequently challenge those approved leaves. He also asked what action had been taken against the officials who had sanctioned the leave.

The judge also raised questions about the teacher’s resignation and her non-selection for an assistant professor position. He observed that public funds had been spent on her PhD, yet the university had recruited someone from outside for the assistant professor post.

The court dismissed the university’s appeal and upheld the previous ruling in favor of Syeda Laila.
