Peshawar: Alleged financial irregularities exceeding Rs920 million have been identified in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Department, according to the Auditor General's report for the fiscal year 2024-25.
According to sources, the report has highlighted alleged irregularities in various projects and financial matters handled by the provincial education department during the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government's tenure. These include teacher recruitment, the provision of tablets to students and other administrative matters, involving alleged irregularities amounting to Rs374.3 million.
Details cited in connection with the report also point to the deteriorating condition of several government school buildings, stretching from Bannu to Haripur. Questions have also been raised over the utilisation of funds allocated for the repair and rehabilitation of school infrastructure.
In Dera Ismail Khan, Charsadda and Buner, several classrooms have reportedly become unusable, raising concerns about disruptions to educational activities and the academic future of thousands of students.
The reported financial irregularities and poor condition of government schools have raised questions about the provision of educational facilities, the utilisation of development funds and the effectiveness of the monitoring system in the province.
However, further details from the original audit report and the response of the relevant authorities are needed to establish the precise nature of the alleged irregularities, identify those responsible and determine any confirmed financial losses.
