ISLAMABAD: A meeting of the Sub-Committee on Aquaculture and Shrimp Value Chain was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry to discuss a roadmap for promoting shrimp farming, value addition and increasing exports in Pakistan.

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said a 24-month plan for shrimp farming was under consideration, while seven technical working groups had been established to support the development of the sector.

He stated that the committee would submit its recommendations to the prime minister within 120 days. The initiative aims to bring together the expertise of relevant institutions to develop effective strategies for expanding shrimp farming and boosting exports.

According to the federal minister, the technical working groups would identify obstacles to the growth of shrimp farming and propose practical solutions. The initiative would also focus on compiling baseline data for the sector to support future planning and development.

Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said federal and provincial institutions would work together on the initiative for the first time. Coordinated efforts among the relevant departments would help strengthen shrimp farming, increase production and create new opportunities for exports.

The minister expressed confidence that a joint strategy and greater institutional cooperation would contribute to the growth of Pakistan's blue economy and help unlock the economic potential of the country's aquatic resources.
