Pakistan Receives $3.6 Billion in Workers’ Remittances in September 2026

Pakistan received $3.6 billion in workers’ remittances in September 2026, marking a 12.7% increase compared with the same month last year, according to the latest figures released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).

Despite the year-on-year growth, remittances declined by 1.9% compared with August 2026.

During the first quarter of fiscal year 2026–27 (Q1 FY27), Pakistan received a cumulative $10.9 billion in workers’ remittances, up 14% from $9.5 billion recorded during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

Pakistan’s Remittances Rise 12.7% Year-on-Year

The $3.6 billion received in September represents a significant increase compared with September last year. The annual growth indicates that overseas Pakistanis continued to send substantial funds to their families through formal channels.

However, the 1.9% month-on-month decline suggests that inflows were slightly lower than in August. Year-on-year comparisons help assess the broader trend while accounting for seasonal fluctuations in remittance activity.

Remittances Reach $10.9 Billion in Q1 FY27

Pakistan's workers’ remittances reached $10.9 billion during July–September 2026, compared with $9.5 billion in the same period last year.

This represents an increase of $1.4 billion, or 14%, during the first quarter of FY27.

Remittances are an important source of foreign exchange for Pakistan. They support household spending, help families meet education and healthcare expenses, and contribute to the country's external financing position.

Strong remittance inflows can also help meet foreign currency demand, although their impact on the exchange rate and official foreign exchange reserves depends on broader economic conditions.

Saudi Arabia Leads Remittance Sources

Saudi Arabia was Pakistan's largest source of workers’ remittances in September 2026, contributing $899.1 million. The United Arab Emirates ranked second with $748.5 million.

The United Kingdom and the United States were also major sources, contributing $515.1 million and $305.9 million, respectively.

Why Workers’ Remittances Matter for Pakistan

Workers’ remittances provide a major source of foreign currency for Pakistan and are an important source of income for millions of households.

They help families cover everyday expenses, housing, education, healthcare, and other financial needs. At the national level, remittance inflows support the external account by providing foreign exchange that can help finance imports and offset other external payments.

The trend in remittances is therefore an important indicator to monitor alongside exports, the trade balance, the current account, and foreign exchange reserves.
