Konya: A football match between Konya Spor and the Palestine national team in Turkey’s Konya drew attention after the game ended with a symbolic gesture in support of Palestine.

The referee blew the final whistle at 89 minutes and 59 seconds, just one second before the completion of the scheduled 90 minutes.

Immediately after the match, a message appeared on the stadium’s large screen stating: “The match has been postponed until Palestine is free.”

Earlier in the game, the stadium lights were switched off at 10 minutes and 14 seconds as a symbolic tribute to Palestinian members of the sports community who have reportedly lost their lives since October 7, 2023.

As part of the tribute, colourful confetti and toys were also thrown onto the pitch, creating a symbolic scene that drew the attention of spectators.

The unusual conclusion and tribute were presented as a show of solidarity with Palestine and a remembrance of those associated with Palestinian sports who have been killed during the ongoing conflict.
