Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed concern over reports that Nooreen Niazi, the sister of former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan, fell ill and was transferred to a hospital.
According to PTI, Nooreen Niazi was reportedly shifted from jail to the Punjab Institute of Cardiology. The party condemned the alleged failure to inform her family about her transfer to the hospital.
PTI has demanded that the Punjab government immediately clarify the health condition of the 70-year-old Nooreen Niazi. The party called for her to be provided with the best possible medical facilities under the supervision of cardiology specialists, along with all necessary medical tests and treatment without delay.
The party also demanded that her family be given verified information about her diagnosis, treatment and medical condition. It further called for family members to be allowed to meet her and inquire about her well-being.
PTI stated that protecting the health and lives of individuals in custody is the responsibility of the state. It maintained that the health and fundamental rights of elderly women must not be put at risk because of political differences.
The party also expressed serious reservations about the treatment of women in custody, including Imran Khan’s sister, and urged the authorities to ensure respect for their dignity, human rights and constitutional protections.
PTI has sought an explanation regarding Nooreen Niazi’s alleged unlawful detention and called for her release, along with that of other women it considers to be held unnecessarily.
The party further stressed that information concerning Nooreen Niazi’s health and safety should not be withheld from her family.
PTI has appealed to the public and party workers to pray for Nooreen Niazi’s speedy and complete recovery.
