Six-Year-Old Girl Swept Away in Rainwater Drain in Rawalpindi, Search Operation Underway

Rawalpindi: A heartbreaking incident occurred in Rawalpindi following heavy overnight rainfall, where a six-year-old girl is feared to have been swept away after falling into a rainwater drain near Committee Chowk in the city's Landa Bazaar residential area.

According to initial reports, heavy rain began at around 3:00 a.m., causing the water level in Nullah Lai to rise significantly. At the same time, drainage channels constructed to carry rainwater from residential neighborhoods reportedly overflowed. Local residents alleged that inadequate drainage management by the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) contributed to severe waterlogging in several parts of the city.

During the downpour, the young girl went missing in the Landa Bazaar area near Committee Chowk. Her family believes she accidentally fell into a nearby rainwater drain and was swept away by the strong current.

The incident was immediately reported to the local police and Rescue 1122. Rescue teams launched a search operation soon after receiving the alert. According to rescue officials, two specialized search teams have been deployed and are searching multiple locations along the drainage channel. Despite continuous efforts, the child had not been located at the time of the latest update.

The incident has left the girl's parents and relatives devastated. Speaking to the media, the child's maternal uncle said that his sister, her husband, and their children had been visiting his home. Early in the morning, as the family was preparing to leave, the children's father was helping them into the vehicle when he suddenly realized that the youngest child was missing.

The family immediately began searching the surrounding area. When they were unable to find her, they feared she had fallen into the nearby rainwater drain. Rescue authorities were informed without delay, and a search operation was launched.

Rescue officials stated that the operation remains ongoing and that all available resources are being utilized to locate the missing child. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious around flooded streets and open drains during periods of heavy rainfall.
