ISLAMABAD: A total of 11,695 pending net metering applications have been processed following special directives from Federal Minister for Power Awais Leghari.

According to officials, 16,654 applications were pending during the transition from the net metering system to the new net billing framework. A comprehensive verification process was subsequently initiated to review the pending cases in accordance with the applicable rules and regulations.

The Pakistan Information Technology Company (PITC) is directly contacting the 11,695 applicants through text messages, WhatsApp and other digital channels to provide updates regarding their applications. Consumers can also check the status of their net metering applications through the relevant online portal.

Officials have advised consumers not to pay any individual or agent for the processing or early approval of their net metering applications. The direct communication initiative is aimed at protecting consumers from agents, unnecessary interference and unauthorized payments.

Meanwhile, verification of the remaining 4,959 pending applications is continuing under the prescribed rules and procedures. Officials said the verification process is intended to protect the rights of legitimate consumers and prevent illegal connections.

Awais Leghari directed the authorities to complete the review of the remaining applications at the earliest and ensure that legitimate consumer cases are not subjected to unnecessary delays.

The federal minister said the government remains committed to promoting solar energy and renewable energy across the country. He emphasized that the government is not against solarization but seeks to establish a transparent, sustainable and properly regulated system.

Leghari further stated that solarization is an important part of Pakistan’s energy future and that legitimate consumers must receive their due rights under the applicable rules and regulations.
