Islamabad: Pakistan’s federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has discussed the deteriorating law and order situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the growing threat of terrorism in the province.
During the meeting, officials briefed the cabinet on the worsening security situation and recent terrorist incidents. The cabinet reportedly expressed concern over what it described as the provincial government’s lack of engagement in addressing the issue.
Following the discussion, the federal cabinet recommended that the prime minister advise President Asif Ali Zardari to consider imposing an emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under Articles 232 and 234 of the Constitution of Pakistan. The proposed measure aims to address security challenges and strengthen public protection.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, recommendations concerning the proposed emergency have been forwarded to the president. Further steps are expected to be announced after the proposal is reviewed and a decision is made.
The proposed move comes amid growing concerns over security and the need for effective measures to restore peace and stability in the province.
