ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has released a comprehensive report titled “Journey Through Reform and Innovation 2026,” documenting judicial and institutional reforms undertaken between November 2024 and September 2026.
The report highlights progress in judicial reforms, effective case management, reducing the backlog of pending cases, digital transformation, institutional accountability and improving public access to justice.
According to the report, progress has been outlined on the implementation of an 86-point judicial reform action plan. A structured monitoring mechanism, specialised working groups and regular review processes have also been established to oversee the implementation of reforms.
The report states that the number of cases decided by the Supreme Court has increased significantly, with particular attention given to resolving older cases and those pending for extended periods. Data-driven systems for monitoring judicial performance have also been strengthened.
It further highlights progress in expanding the Supreme Court’s digital services and modernising judicial procedures. Reforms undertaken under the National Judicial Policy Making Committee, timely disposal of priority cases and the establishment of model trial courts are also identified as key initiatives.
The report also underscores efforts to promote the responsible use of artificial intelligence in the justice system and develop judicial analytics systems. Several measures have been introduced to make judicial services more accessible and improve facilities for litigants.
Other areas covered include enhancing transparency within the judicial system, strengthening institutional cooperation, improving public services and expanding international judicial collaboration.
According to the report, the overarching objective of these reforms is to make the justice system more efficient, transparent, accessible and responsive to public needs.
The document provides an institutional record of reform initiatives, measurable progress and ongoing efforts to further improve the judicial system.
