KARACHI: A 30-year-old woman, identified as Bakhtawar alias Bakhan, was killed in a firing incident inside her house in Qadir Nagar, near Ghaghar Phatak, Karachi. Police have claimed that the woman died by suicide following a domestic dispute, while her husband and a neighbour allege that two armed robbers entered the house and shot her before fleeing.
According to details, the incident occurred in Qadir Nagar, a low-income settlement near Ghaghar Phatak Bridge in the Steel Town area. The deceased woman's body was shifted to Jinnah Hospital through a Chhipa ambulance.
Karachi Police spokesperson identified the deceased as 30-year-old Bakhtawar alias Bakhan, wife of Rasool Bakhsh.
Steel Town SHO Inspector Javed Abro claimed that the incident appeared to be the result of a domestic dispute and that the woman had allegedly shot herself. However, he said police were investigating the incident.
Meanwhile, the victim's neighbour, Shahzadi, told Express that Bakhtawar had been married for approximately one and a half years and was the mother of a 20-day-old baby girl. She belonged to Tando Muhammad Khan, Sindh, while her husband worked as a daily wage labourer.
According to Shahzadi, during the night between Wednesday and Thursday, other family members were asleep while Bakhtawar was feeding her infant daughter.
She alleged that two armed men climbed over the boundary wall and entered the house. Upon seeing them, Bakhtawar began screaming, which allegedly angered the intruders. One of the suspects then opened fire, hitting her in the head.
The woman sustained critical injuries and died shortly afterwards, while the armed suspects managed to escape.
The victim's husband also described the incident as a robbery, alleging that the suspects had entered the house with the intention of stealing and shot his wife when she raised an alarm.
A Steel Town police official stated that the area where the incident occurred is known for criminal activity, with incidents of theft and robbery frequently reported.
The official further claimed that previous SHOs had also been unable to effectively prevent crimes or arrest suspects involved in such incidents.
According to the police official, the possibility of a robbery-related killing cannot be ruled out, and the actual circumstances will become clear after the investigation.
The conflicting accounts from police and the victim's family have raised questions about the circumstances surrounding Bakhtawar's death. Police investigations are ongoing to establish the facts.
