ISLAMABAD: Passport Rules Committee Reviews Measures to Facilitate Overseas Pakistanis

A meeting of the Passport Rules Committee was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar. Officials from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Passport Department and other relevant authorities attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, Federal Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar said that overseas Pakistanis are a valuable asset to the country and reiterated the government's commitment to providing them with maximum possible facilities.

He directed the authorities to ensure the timely verification of travel documents and other required papers and called for the development of an integrated mechanism for document verification.

The federal minister stressed the need to make the record verification process faster and easier and directed that clear timelines be established for the completion of verification procedures.

Azam Nazeer Tarar also directed the Ministry of Interior to develop an electronic mechanism at its level and ensure that the necessary procedures are completed electronically wherever possible.

The meeting also discussed a proposal to introduce a one-window portal for the verification of documents and records.

The federal minister directed the relevant authorities to submit further proposals for improving the rules and regulations and instructed them to present a clear roadmap at the next meeting.
