ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has reportedly invited Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to visit Islamabad amid growing expectations of a third round of negotiations between the United States and Iran.

According to diplomatic sources, the invitations were extended through National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The move reflects Pakistan's continued diplomatic engagement with Tehran as regional tensions and international negotiations evolve.

Sources indicate that Iran continues to regard Pakistan as an important regional interlocutor, prompting Islamabad to seek high-level consultations on the changing regional security environment. Following a telephone conversation between Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Iranian counterpart Seyed Abbas Araghchi, formal invitations were reportedly delivered on Monday night.

Iran has not yet officially confirmed when the two senior officials will visit Pakistan.

During their telephone conversation, the foreign ministers discussed regional and international developments, including the situation in East Jerusalem. Pakistan's Foreign Office has emphasized the importance of an early visit by the Iranian delegation, although no official schedule has been announced.

Diplomatic sources note that Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi was in Iraq to attend Arbaeen-related engagements, which may affect the timing of the proposed visit.

Following the recent regional hostilities, Pakistan maintained a relatively low public profile regarding mediation efforts. However, diplomatic sources suggest Islamabad remained engaged through back-channel contacts, including coordination with Qatar, and contributed to efforts that supported the ceasefire reached after the 13-day conflict.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that he intends to give Iran another opportunity for diplomacy before considering further military action. He also claimed that the United States maintains full control over the Strait of Hormuz and said negotiations could resume as early as the following day, although he did not disclose the venue or participating delegations.
